THE INTERCONNECTION OF LAW AND POLITICS IN PUBLIC LIFE DURING THE RUSSIAN-UKRAINIAN WAR

Abstract

This article provides a comprehensive examination of the complex and dynamic interplay between the legal and political spheres within the context of the ongoing Russian-Ukrainian war, a conflict that has significantly impacted regional stability and international security. It delves into the intricate features of their mutual influence during the hostilities, analyzing how legal frameworks and political decisions interact and shape each other amidst the evolving crisis. Special emphasis is placed on the development and adaptation of legal mechanisms in critical areas such as national security, the implementation of martial law, and the protection of citizens’ fundamental rights and freedoms under wartime conditions. The study also explores the international legal aspects of the conflict, highlighting the role of international law in regulating state behavior, humanitarian law, and the mechanisms aimed at ensuring accountability and justice. Considerable attention is given to the role of legal policy in maintaining stability and legitimacy of government actions during wartime, as well as in shaping the broader international response. The article features scholarly insights from prominent experts such as G. Sytnyk, N. Klymenko, and others, particularly concerning the ongoing global shifts in the international relations system, the challenges to humanitarian security, and the implications for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. It also discusses potential prospects for improving legal regulation and governance under conditions of crisis, including safeguarding human rights, ensuring information security, and facilitating Ukraine’s socio-economic recovery and reconstruction in the post- war period. The paper underscores the critical importance of aligning legal and political institutions to promote the stable development of the state, prevent legal abuses, and foster greater trust among citizens. Ultimately, it aims to contribute to the understanding of how legal and political strategies can be effectively coordinated to address the multifaceted challenges posed by the conflict, ensuring resilience and resilience-building in both national and international contexts.
